Interstate highways connect Milwaukee with neighboring states and communities.  Milwaukee is 80 miles (1 ½ hours) north on I-94 from Chicago and 5 ½ hours east of the Twin Cities.  Milwaukee is an hour northeast from Rockford, IL, on I-43. The Encampment hotel is adjacent to I-94.  View map.

Milwaukee is also served by Amtrak.  The Amtrak Hiawatha line runs between Milwaukee and Chicago.  Amtrak serves 500 destinations in 46 states.

Amtrak and the Greyhound Bus line all operate out of one terminal in the downtown area. Milwaukee is one of Greyhound’s 2400 service locations.

Badger Bus Lines operates along I-94, between Milwaukee and Minneapolis, with stops in LaCrosse and Madison.

Additionally, Milwaukee’s High Speed Lake Express Ferry offers daily round trip service between Milwaukee and Muskegon, Michigan.  The ferry trip takes 2 ½ hours.  Trips begin April 30th and run through October 31st.
